Scheduled Guest Speaker: Dr. Katherine Fobear
In Celebration of Women’s History Month, DWIA will explore the historical legislative political challenges of Women with Dr. Katherine Fobear, Professor in the Department of Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program at CSU, Fresno. Dr. Fobear will discuss the evolution of the Equal Rights Amendment, the Equality Act,
and the Violence Against Women Act.
Women make up over 50% of the population why are they not treated equally in the constitution?
50 of 120 legislative seats in California are filled by women.
25 of 100 women serve in the Senate and 149 of 535 (27.9 %) serve in Congress.
All though these are the most diverse legislatures ever elected with greater representation of women why do women continue to be marginalized and discriminated against?
Let’s talk about this at our next DWIA meeting!
Our meetings are held at Marie Callender’s Restaurant at Cedar and Shaw Avenues.
Choose dinner from a list of 4 options.
Please come and get reacquainted! Free pie on your birthday!
