Socorro Santillan came to the United States at the age of three from Mexico. She grew up in rural Fresno County in Five Points where she worked in the fields alongside her mother in the summers. She graduated from California State University, Fresno with her B.A. in Chicano Latino Studies. She has dedicated over twenty-five years to advocating for reproductive health, health care, education, immigration, LGBTQ+, and restorative justice.

Socorro is currently the director of public affairs for Planned Parenthood Mar Monte. In the last four years at PPMM she has diversified its partnerships to include faith leaders. She has been instrumental in building PPMM’s base to be more inclusive of young people of color, LGBTQ+, and immigrants.
